Seago Inducted in to Allegheny College Athletics Hall of Fame

MEADVILLE, Pa. –  College of Charleston head cross country and track and field coach Amy Seago has been inducted in to the athletics hall of fame at her alma mater, Allegheny College, as announced by Allegheny's Director of Athletics, Portia Hoeg.

An 11-time North Coast Athletic Conference champion, Seago still stands as one of the most decorated cross country and track athletes in Allegheny College history. In outdoor track, she began her career as part of the 1996 conference champion 1600-meter relay team, helping Allegheny to the team title. She then embarked on arguably the most dominant stretch in NCAC outdoor track history, as she won the NCAC title in both the 800-meter and 1500-meter in each of the next three seasons, being NCAC Middle/Distance Runner of the Year honors each year.

In indoor, she was named the NCAC Middle/Distance Runner of the Year both in 1998 and 1999, as she captured two 800-meter championships, as well as the 1998 3000-meter title and the 1500-meter title in 1999, while earning All-American honors with a fifth-place finish in the 800 at the 1998 NCAA Championship.

Just as impressive on the cross country course, she was a First Team All-NCAC finisher in 1997, taking second at the conference championship meet, before earning NCAC Runner of the Year honors with a first-place finish in 1998, when she went on to earn First Team All-Region honors and qualify for the NCAA National Championship. In 2003, she was named to the NCAC 1993-2002 All-Decade Teams for both track and cross country.

She currently is the head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach at Division I College of Charleston, one of the lone females at the NCAA's highest classification to be in charge of both men's and women's programs.

“Allegheny College is very near to my heart,” said Seago. “I met so many wonderful people during my time there who have left a lasting impression on my life. Coach Bill Ross is the reason I have such a passion for the sport of track and field. It was a touching honor to be inducted in to their athletics hall of fame.”

Seago maintains that many of the lessons she learned as a student-athlete at Allegheny have now carried over in to her coaching ethos at The College.

“It was great to connect with Olympian – and fellow inductee – Jeremy Scott. He stressed how important individualized attention was to his development in the sport. This is the cornerstone of our philosophy at the College of Charleston.  I was glad to be reminded of my roots and inspired to bring back an enriched perspective back with me to The College.”

Entering her 11th year as the head cross country and track and field coach, Seago's athletes have captured 18 conference titles in six different individual events and earned three trips to the NCAA Outdoor Regionals.

In August, Seago was honored by the College of Charleston for her 10 years of service to The College.

“Hopefully, the next 10 years is even better,” said Seago. “The future is bright.”
