Brandon Hudgins' blog: Seize the moment

If you are one of the lucky 8 people in your event this week you get the chance to represent your school and yourself at the South Carolina State Track Meet.  Let me congratulate you.  You have already had a successful season and can say that you are one of the best 8 in the State of South Carolina regardless of how what happens Friday and Saturday.  This weekend is what all the long miles and hard workouts are put in for, so don’t be afraid to go out there and lay it all on the line.  Because after this weekend, it’s a long time till the next championship, if not your last.  There should be comfort in this situation not, fear!  You have rightfully earned your spot now go out there and make a lifelong memory!

I still remember my final State track meet (almost 10 years ago now) like it was yesterday.  I remember standing in the holding area before the mile and staring down the straightaway at Spring Valley in 90+ degree heat and watching the heat waves bend the lanes on the track surface.  I also remember the nerves I had, because I knew it was my race to lose.  I had been on a mission since getting beat during the State XC meet.  These guys weren’t gonna beat me this time around.  I knew I had done the right work and I was ready to show everyone!  Sure enough I executed my plan and managed to pull off the victory I had trained for all winter and spring!

As Eminem said,

“If you had, one shot, or one opportunity

To seize everything you ever wanted, one moment

Would you capture it?

Or just let it slip”

So don’t let this weekend slip away.  Seize the opportunity and the moment.  When you feel that moment of weakness in the race, like you might not make it or may lose, instead of giving in, try making one more push before you give up and you will be surprised what you may have left in the legs and heart!  Better to fail giving it your all than to live with the doubt that you may have had just a little left.  Leave it all on the track this weekend and seize your moment!  It’s fun and worth all the pain, I promise!!!  No Regrets!

Till next time,
