A high school coach is on administrative leave after she is charged with DUI during a trip with seven student athletes in the vehicle, according to Spartanburg District 7.District officials said Dedra Kiser, the girls’ cross country coach from Spartanburg High, was driving seven athletes in a district vehicle to Charleston on Friday for an invitation match.  She was pulled over in a 1999 Chevy Suburban at 5:17 p.m. for erratic driving, troopers said.  Kiser was arrested and charged with DUI and reckless endangerment of children.According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, there were multiple calls about a reckless driver. After finally catching up with the vehicle, a trooper pulled over the car and suspected the driver was under the influence. The driver was identified as Dedra Kiser.Kiser was taken into custody and arrested for DUI, said troopers.According to troopers, the Charleston County Department of Social Services was notified and they contacted the parents, so they could come pick up their children.The athletes were taken to the Charleston Police Department. Their parents had to drive there to pick them up.A statement from District 7 said, “The safety of our children is always our first and foremost priority. Thankfully, our student athletes are all doing fine. We’ve worked closely with their parents and they have been as understanding as they can be. Our girls were placed in a potentially harmful situation and that is absolutely intolerable.“The employee in question has been relieved of her coaching duties and is on administrative leave while the situation is being investigated.”
