What does it mean to win the Greenville County Championships Saturday?
It means that I can achieve any goal I want. I just have to put my mind to it.

How did the race unfold?
I came in wanting to get a PR and break 18 but I didn’t quite have it, so I just tried to push myself to stay with the top runners. On the last mile I decided I had to make a move it I wanted to win, so I kicked it up a notch and pushed myself harder.

How did you prepare for a meet?
I try to get pumped up and listen to music. I also don’t try to think about the race too much or I feel like I will over think it.

Do you have any family members involved in the sport?
Yes, my young sister Lauren runs for Riverside.

What roles do you have on the team this year?
I have no leadership roles this year but I try to help where I can.

Do you have any post season cross country meets planned?
Yes, we are planning to go to Nike regionals, and USATF Junior Olympics in Myrtle Beach.

Do you have a specific race strategy that works best for you?
Not really.  When I run I don’t think about how fast I am going and I don’t like to wear a watch because it stresses me out. I just try to convince myself I can go faster and go for it.

What do you enjoy about the Riverside team and being on the course with them daily?
I love how well we get along, and no matter how competitive we get every day, we are so close and will always be there for each other.

What plans do you have for the future?
I plan to go to a four year college like Clemson and graduate with a medical degree.

Are you looking to run at a college? Please explain.
I haven’t thought about it much but I might run in college.

Do you remember your first race?
Not really.

How did summer training go?
It was good and tough.  I pushed myself hard as I knew I wanted to have a big year and it starts in the summer.

What do you remember the most from being a runner?
The friends I have made and all the fun we have.

Do you have a pre-race tradition?
I pray and listen to music.

How do you balance academics, athletics and other responsibilities?
It’s a lot of work but I like to stay busy, and you have to be organized and focused.  When I’m not running or doing school work, I try to have fun with family and friends.

What challenges or injuries have you encountered in the sport? How did you stay motivated during this time?  Last year I was dealing with stress fractures in both feet and it was a tough year for me.  It motivated me though and helped me push myself for this year.
