Waccamaw's J.J. Sherman talks about the goals for the season.

How did you get involved in the sport and why?
I started in Hersheys track and field events.

How have you seen it change?
The races are a lot quicker.

How do you feel you have grown in the sport?
Being more of a leader and being more focused.

What has been your motivation for this season?
Not winning state last year.

How do you look at the rankings?
I look at is as a list of people to beat.

What goes throughout your mind as the gun is getting ready to go as you are waiting in the blocks or starting line?
Nothing, I keep my mind clear in the blocks.

Do you have a pre race tradition? Please explain.
I don't.

How would you rate your season so far?
A 10. This is my best season.

Do you have any family members involved in the sport? Please explain.
My father use to run in high school.

What challenges have you encountered in the sport?
I shattered my knee cap in ninth grade.

Have you ever been injured? Please explain.
Read above, the knee thing.

What do you hope to achieve in the sport and in life in the future?
I want to win state and have an opportunity to make the Olympic team someday.

Do you have post season track plans?
Attend college and compete.

What is your favorite workout and why?
Repeat 300s, because it makes everything else seem easy.

What goals have you set for the rest of the season?
PRs in all of my events, 100,200,400, and long jump.

Looking at the 2014 state meet, what do you remember and how did that make you prepare for the 2015 state meet?
Never underestimate your opponents and stay focused.

If there is one thing in the world you could do, what it would it be and why?
Compete in the Olympics because it's a dream and an once in a lifetime opportunity.
