Vote for Carolina Homeschool coach Ken Roach as Brooks Inspiring Coach of the Year. Updated: Voting ends May 30.

Quote from website: "If you can put one foot in front of the other, I can make you a runner," proclaims Coach Ken Roach to potential athletes. Five years ago, a group of homeschool athletes struggled to find a team to call their own and Coach Roach stepped in to create and coach the team. "We have grown from a handful of young kids in torn up tennis shoes and a bottle of water to a real, competitive high school running team," wrote one athlete's parent. While battling the stigma of homeschool-versus-public-school and winning the opportunity for his team to compete, Ken Roach has been a leader and mentor to his student athletes. Coach Roach was instrumental in beginning a cross country youth series for elementary and middle school age children in his community, deepening his habit of providing new opportunities for young athletes. Amazingly, in a few short years, Coach Roach has produced great success with top-ranked cross country runners and an independent championship title. With an unconventional team, no salary, and often times, digging into his own pockets to support the team, Coach Roach has built a running community that provides a safe and thriving environment for student athletes to excel.
