SCA’s Morris talks Clemson decision

Logan Morris of Spartanburg Christian talks about the journey to choosing Clemson.

What made you decide to commit to Clemson?
My decision was definitely not easy. I had two great schools and running programs to consider. It came down to stepping back and looking at the entire package. I looked at major, college environment, team, and the best transition from high school into college. I finally landed on Clemson when I could picture myself there for the next four to five years whether I am able to run or not.

What were your other top choices?
I shortened my list to eight schools just before school started. Then, as I scheduled my official visits, it came down to N.C. State, Clemson, Furman, and Georgia.

What do you hope to achieve in academics and athletics?

I am planning on majoring in Industrial Engineering. After earning my undergraduate degree, I plan on working towards a master's degree. Athletically, I want to continue to improve each year and contribute to my team. I will be working towards scoring at the ACC meets and competing at the NCAAs.

What did you experience during each visit?
My official visits were similar. Each school treated me to an endless amount of food. I was able to tour their beautiful campuses, check out their athletic facilities and awesome gear, go on the field at the football games, meet with the coaches, and experience the life of collegiate athletes while hanging out with the teams. Each school made sure to make me feel important and answer all of my questions.

What would you recommend to others when choosing a college?

Do your homework and trust God! This is a very big decision, and it is overwhelming when you try to plan out the next five years of your life. The best advice I received was to pray and trust God. He knows the future, so allow Him to guide your decision. As doors closed to certain schools, I had to trust God was in control. In the end, I feel confident that I am where God can use me and my gift of running best, and I can't wait to see what He does from here.

What does it feel like to have the decision made?

It is a huge relief! It has been a long process that I have been very blessed to go through. However, I am excited to have signed my National Letter of Intent and officially committed to Clemson University. It's a great time to be a Tiger!

What do you hope to achieve this spring?
I am so pumped for track. Last year, I was not able to really challenge myself due to an issue with my IT Band. I am looking forward to breaking some big time barriers in the 1,600 and 3,200 and competing against great competition. The spring is my last season in the SCA Warrior uniform, and it is my last chance to leave my mark on this running community. Needless to say, I feel confident God is going to do some big things.

Looking at your career at Spartanburg Christian, what will you remember the most?
When I started running, I never dreamed of the family I would gain in the following seven years. I will remember the relationships I have formed with people across the state. I have been so blessed by the many people who have reached out to me. I love being able to cheer on other runners at races and encourage those around me. I will forever remember all of the support and love from the runners in South Carolina. I especially appreciate all the work SCrunners has given to help promote running in S.C. This website played a big part of my recruiting. Many coaches commented on my stats, interviews, and articles they read on SCrunners. I will always appreciate the pictures and videos that I can cherish as I look back over my career.

What individuals in your life were involved in helping you make the decision?
My parents were the most involved in this decision. They traveled with me on all of my visits and helped me handle the stress that came with this huge decision. However, when it came time to truly decide, they stepped back and let me make the decision completely on my own. I would also say that my coach, Steve Conway, gave me helpful advice throughout the process. I was blessed to have so many people praying for me and many were willing to talk with me to share advice and answer my questions.
