Interview: Daniel's Barton commits to Va. Tech

What made you decide to commit to Virginia Tech?
After visiting Virginia Tech, I really liked the dedication of each athlete had, the coach's ability to drastically improve his athletes, and the school's quality of education.

What were your other top choices?
My other top choices were the Jacksonville University, Clemson, and Georgia.

What do you hope to achieve in academics and athletics?
I hope to major in Health Science leading to physical therapy and to reach my full potential in athletics.

What did you experience during each visit?
Each visit I stayed with a girl from the team and they let me follow them in their schedule and see what it feels like to live at and attend the college. Also I got to talk to academic and athletic advisors.

What would you recommend to others when choosing a college?
I would recommend making a list of what is most important to you in a college and writing down and comparing the pros and cons of each college. Official visits really helped me because I was able spend time talking with the coach, team members and advisors.  This gave me much better picture of what I might expect.

What does it feel like to have the decision made?
It is a huge relief to know where I am going to college so that I can focus on my senior year.

What do you hope to achieve this spring?
I hope to continue to improve my 800 time and enjoy my last year with my teammates.

How have you been training for the upcoming track season?
I have been doing some weight training and light running.

Looking at your career at Daniel, what will you remember the most?
I will remember the close relationships formed over the years of track and cross country.

What individuals in your life were involved in helping you make the decision?
My dad really helped me figure out how I should rationalize and think through my decision.
