Interview: Ashley Hall’s Morgan Lee signs with Gamecocks

What made you decide to commit to University of South Carolina?
USC is a wonderful school, upon visiting I fully realized how much I enjoyed the environment and school spirit. After I had met the girls on the xc and track teams I felt more than welcomed, it seemed as if I was lucky enough to find "my people," which ultimately ended up being the deal breaker for me.

What were your other top choices?
Originally my heart was set on attending UGA, after running in a track camp there over the summer.

What do you hope to achieve in academics and athletics?
I am very excited about finally being able to choose my own academic path, and focus on classes that I hope will later result in a career. Therefore I am choosing to major in Business Management. As for athletics, I am eager to see how my times will improve being adjusted to college level training. I think the rigorous training and talent on the team will undoubtably push me to be a faster, competitive runner.

What did you experience during each visit?
Upon visiting USC I was amazed at the athletic facilities, as well as Darla Moore School of Business building, many cafeterias incredible dorms, the many historic college buildings and the construction of the new indoor and outdoor track. I was absolutely sold. Anyone would be crazy not to dream of going to this school.

What would you recommend to others when choosing a college?

Much like everyone says, please go visit your top choice schools! Before going to visit USC my first choice was primarily UGA, but by the end of the day the college as well as its people had indefinitely changed my mind.

What does it feel like to have the decision made?
This time of year is very stressful for high school seniors, therefore I am very fortunate to be more than happy with my decision.

What do you hope to achieve this spring?
So far this fall I have been amping up my training so that I will not only be more prepared for college level workouts as well as the upcoming spring track season. In the past my primary event has been the 1600, though this year I have decided that I am going after the 800, in order to break the school record of 2:19.

Looking at your career at Ashley Hall, what will you remember the most?
Honestly? I vividly remember a sixth grade Morgan that I almost quit the xc team because I was the youngest and didn't know very many of the older girls. And I could not be more thankful that I continued with xc and loved it the whole way up to my senior season. It really began and fueled my love for running, furthermore I don't know where I would be without it.

What individuals in your life were involved in helping you make the decision?
Coach Allden was wonderful about contacting me and giving information about the team and the college, as well as my parents and fellow runners. Also I was really after being able to compete at the Division 1 level, something I am very proud of.
