How did you get involved in the sport and why?
I got involved in cross country and track because my older sisters all ran for Eastside.

Do you have any family members involved in the sport? Please explain.

Yes, my dad ran for two years in high school. His senior year he was third on his team, which won the team scores for AAA state xc. All three of my older sisters ran for Eastside. The twins, Lauren and Emily were part of the girls team that won state in 2011. Fifth and sixth on the team, I believe.

What roles do you have on the team this year?
I think that a lot of the younger guys look up to me as the fastest on the team, so I need to lead by example and encourage everyone during practices.

What does it mean to be part of your team?
I love running fast and placing well; especially in an Eastside uniform.

Do you have any post cross country meets plans?
I plan to race in Foot Locker South.

Do you have any specific race strategies that work best for you?
A soldier does not discuss his battle tactics before going to war. However I do have a pretty sweet 800 race strategy. So you go out really hard the first lap, then you also make the second lap really hard so then you're going really hard both laps. Foolproof plan.

Do you prefer track or cross country, and why?
I enjoy track more because track is fast. In xc you have so many different factors slowing you down: hills, weather, sharp turns, terrain, whereas in track really the only variable is weather. It's just fast all the time.

What do you enjoy about the team and being on the course with them daily?

I love messing around with the team all the time. My teammates are my best friends, and we get into shenanigans all the time. And we regret none of them.

How do you look at having the third fastest time in the state?
There are still two guys that have faster times than me,  and plenty of guys right behind me that could still beat me on any given day. So I just have to stay aware of everyone around me.

What plans do you have for the future?
In terms of the season, I want to have a successful championship season and finish it up well. Ultimately, I would love to compete at the collegiate level.

Are you looking to run at a college?
I would love to run in college when the time comes however I do not have any top choices yet because I don't even know what I want to major in. But I'm only a sophomore so I have some time to figure things out.

Do you remember your first race?
I do, it was at Cleveland Park. I ran a 31:31.

How did summer training go?
It went pretty well. I had some sickness at one point and missed a few days of training but other than that it went great.

What do you remember the most from being a runner?
To protect my shins from all physical contact with anything.

Do you have a specific reason to achieve a goal or goals this season?
I want to be great.

What do you enjoy the most about being part of the Eastside team?
I love playing Minecraft with my boys on the daily.

What helps you stay focused during practices and races?
Keeping in mind the feeling of accomplishing a goal. Sometimes I lose focus during races and that always leaves me with regrets, so I also try to keep that in mind.

What responsibility do you feel you have to your teammates? Please explain
.
I have the the responsibility to encouraging everyone.

Do you have a pre-race tradition? Please explain.
I cannot wear deodorant on race day. It would clog up my pores, I wouldn't sweat, I would overheat and race terrible. Logic.

How do you balance academics, athletics and other responsibilities?
H.I.C. - hydration is key.

What challenges or injuries have you encountered in the sport? How did you stay motivated during this time?
I had a stress fracture at the end of seventh grade track, but other than that I have been able to stay injury free. It was discouraging because it also messed up my eighth grade xc season because I wasn't conditioned at all. Ultimately it was a good time for that to happen though.

If there is one thing in the world you could do, what would it be and why
?
Own my own land in the Rockies with my own plane that I could use to transport myself so that I could visit whenever.
