Riverside's Abigail Smith talks Tennessee decision

What made you decide to commit to Tennessee?
I loved the campus and atmosphere. I also enjoyed spending time with the team and coaches on my official visit.

How did you make the final decision and who was involved?
My final decision was between UT and College of Charleston. I really liked College of Charleston but it didn't have my major, nursing. My parents helped me and encouraged me through this process.

What did you experience on each visit?
On each visit I spent time with the team and coaches, toured the running venues, ate lots of good food, and toured the campus.

What were your top five choices?
I looked at five schools. University of South Carolina, University of Tennessee, Clemson, Auburn, and College of Charleston. My top schools were USC, UT, and CofC.

What did you learn from the experience?

I learned to fall in love with the school itself.

How is training?
Training has went really well this XC season and I'm so glad that I finished off with a third place finish at state!

How do you look at your time at Riverside?
Riverside is such a great school to be apart of. I'm so glad that I joined the XC team as a freshman. The team is amazing and we all have a great bond.

What will you miss the most from Riverside?
I will definitely miss my teammates. All of the top girls get along really well.  I have been training with most of them since freshman year and we have came a long way together!

What would you say is the biggest memory you have?
The biggest memory is probably winning the 4x800 in track this past season.

What do you hope to study and otherwise achieve in college?
In college I want to study nursing and achieve some new PRs. I also want to just enjoy college and have a memorable experience.

How did the Tennessee coaches react when informed?
The UT coaches were super excited and so happy for me!
