South Carolina USATF inducts four into hall of fame

South Carolina USATF association inducted four into the assocation's hall of fame in late September on the campus of USC Upstate in Spartanburg during the annual meeting. The association also announced three presidential awards.

Kwabene Brown (Quick Striders, Westside), Bob Jenkins (South Pointe), Mickey McCauley (F.I.R.S.T.) and Mike Moore were inducted into the hall of fame.

Presidential awards were distributed to scrunners.com webmaster John Olson, town of Mt. Pleasant and city of Myrtle Beach.

USATF said in a release, "John is the webmaster for scrunners.com.  His efforts have been tremendous in helping promote the sport of track & Field / cross country.  John is a huge asset to our sport and has instrumental in the growth of track & field / cross country in South Carolina."

The released noted the town of Mount Pleasant, "was the first community in the State of South Carolina to step up and build a track and field facility for community and recreation department use.  They are about to open one of the finest track and field facilities in the state. The town of Mount Pleasant Recreation Department also has one of the strongest and largest track clubs in the state." 

The city of Myrtle Beach received the award for "stepping up and building a new track and field facility for the local high school, community and recreation use." The association also noted, "It is an immaculate facility and will play host to several meets this spring. They are currently establishing a youth track and field program. 

Hall of Fame biographies:
Bob Jenkins
Coach Bob Jenkins began coaching in 1957.  He coached at York High, Rock Hill, Northwestern and South Pointe.  He coached at Northwestern from 1971 until his retirement in 1995.  While at NW his track teams won three state Championships and were runner-up twice.  His cross country teams at Northwestern won three state championships and were runner-up once. Now he has come out of retirement and working with the program at South Point High School.  He was selected as National Track Coach of the Year and is the founding member of SCTCCCA.  He served as President of SCTCCCA from 1974-78 and 1992-95. Jenkins was also instrumental in the bringing the Region III Meet to Rock Hill this past year.

Kwabene Brown “K.B.”
Coach Kwabene Brown is one of the finest youth coaches in the state of South Carolina.  K.B. is a coach for the Quickstriders Track Club.  He has discovered some of the best talent in the state including Jasmin Stowers, last years Nike Outdoor Nationals 100-meter hurdle champion. Brown has also served as a high school coach at Westside. Brown has had a huge impact on 100s of kids in South Carolina.

Mike Moore
Coach Moore is a fixture in the High School coaching community.  Coach Moore has been a head track and cross country coach for 27 years - eight at Orangeburg-Wilkinson and the remaining at Irmo High.  At Orangeburg-Wilkinson was 52-4 with six region titles and one state runner-up.  At Irmo - girl's cross country has six region and two state runner-ups. Boy's cross country has 14 region, four state runner-ups and two state championships.  Coach Moore's girl's track has 12 region, one state runner-up and two state championships and boy's track has four region championships and one state runner-up.  He served as president and vice president of SCTCCCA.  During presidency, he established the Coaches Classic for cross country and track.  He was also instrumental in developing constitution for SCTCCCA and co-coach of first Shrine Bowl Run.

Mickey McCauley
Mickey McCauley is a long time USATF Official.  He has served as President of the Greenville Track Club and serves as meet director for the Blue Shoes events at Furman University.  McCauley currently works in the F.I.R.S.T. program at Furman University.  He has committed a huge amount of time to the sport and has been a strong support of USATF for many years.
