Oyster River Senior Patrick O'Brien Sets State Record in the 3000m

Durham Oyster River senior Patrick O'Brien went into the New Hampshire Indoor Track and Field Championships as the prohibitive favorite in both the 1500m and 3000m runs, having earned his keep at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix and the Seacoast Championships earlier in the season.

But the University of New Hampshire signee did himself one better on Sunday, earning the state indoor record in the 3000m, running a US No. 8 time of 8:39.52. He also added a top 50 time in the 1500, running 4:09.19 -- O'Brien had already recorded a 4:05.74 in December.

Better yet, he did it on his future track, nailing his performances on the Paul Sweet Oval at the University of New Hampshire.

Now O'Brien heads into the outdoor season with a ton of confidence and with a few more goals on his plate.

Can he cut more time away from this 1500m and 3000m runs? It's not so much a question as it is a formality at this point.
