Track Athlete Carter Wilkerson #NuggsforCarter Has Most Retweeted Tweet Ever

Track athlete Carter Wilkerson from Bishop Manogue High School in Reno, Nevada, now has the most retweeted tweet ever -- #NuggsForCarter.

Wilkerson sent out a tweet back in April asking Wendy's how many retweets he needed to get free chicken nuggets for a year. Wendy's replied that he needed 18 million retweets to receive his nuggets.

Although Wilkerson did not reach the 18 million mark, he did break the old record for retweets just this morning. The old record was held by Ellen DeGeneres, whose selfie with Hollywood A-listers from the 2014 Academy Awards gained 3.43 million retweets.

Wilkerson's tweet as of 10:21 AM (CDT) had 3,441,290 retweets, beating Ellen's number of 3,430,664 retweets (as of 10:21 AM CDT) by 10,626.

There's a website that tracks Carter's ongoing progress in beating Ellen.

And...don't you worry about Wilkerson getting his nuggets. Wendy's said breaking the record was enough for Wilkerson to be awarded his fast-food bounty.

On his quest for retweets, Wilkerson also sold merchandise to raise money for the Wendy's-affiliated Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, which is dedicated to finding homes for children in foster care. On Tuesday, Wendy's said it would donate $100,000 to the charity.
