with the news from spring valley today, all you jealous coaches and atheletes, who have been complaining for years, have a chance to step up and host the state meet.
here's your chance to show eveyone how you would run the meet...including who gets the assumed best breaks.
be aware...sv runs a great meet and you best bring your A game when running the state meet
Best Meet Hosts in the Lowcountry, Summerville and Bishop England. No Parking at BE. Maybe they could work together to host a stellar meet.
How about run in at Clemson and qualify 10 people!
I like the Clemson idea. More competition might bring better performances. Athletes will have to run, jump, vault and throw harder to get valuble team points.
Myrtle Beach just got a nice new rubberized track this summer... Someone should look into that, and of course everyone would love to take a beach trip, it will be nice in May!
SV has consistently run a well-managed track meet & will be a tough act to follow. Probably have to be a central 4A school like Irmo,DF,Lex,RV,White Knoll or even a 3A like Dreher to accommodate everyone as mentioned prior. Hopefully some of the SV officials will offer their expertise/help if needed. It would be a great opportunity to showcase your school -Good luck & thanks to whomever takes this on.
Good chance its Winthrop.
it is very doubtful that the State Meet will be held ouside the
Columbia area, assuming that someone will offer to host it. Most of the Championships are held in the Columbia are, the State's geographical center, and that precedent will probably be followed.
As far as the 4A Qualifier is concerned, it could theoretically be held anywhere, including , but not limited to the sites previously mentioned.
One thing to keep in mind though, is that the Coaches' association is contracted to put on the State Meet; it has not the exclusive domain or responsibility of Spring Valley.
I guess we will hear something at some point in time; however, the sooner the better.
Good luck to all and let's all work to make this the best track and field season ever.
holding the meet at Winthrop would be amazing! Although when the Region 3-4A meet was held there a few years ago there didn't seem to be very much seating at the track. Clemson would be nice too. South Pointe out of the question? I really like running there - big stadium, 8 lane track, well kept field equipment and facilities....
i agree....South Pointe is a well-kept facility....many people will have the chance to see for themselves when SP is hosting the Coaching Classic..
Having the state meet at Clemson would be rediculous. Can you imagine the drive for schools from the Hilton Head, Charleston, or Myrtle Beach areas?
The new Memorial Stadium Track Field in Columbia would be a great site.

Has there been any news on where the 4A state qualifier & state meet will be held? Coaches any one know?
Throwsman- is Dorman officially the site?
from what I hear. I ahve not seen that posted on the HSL website, but it is looking like Dorman.
Not what I'm hearing. I hear Dorman is the site for the 4A qualifier, and probably Dreher for the state meet.
How about Airport High School? It serves as a decent medium between upper and lower state...
why not LR the track down there seems to be just fine.
LR isn't big enough to host a meet like that. Dorman or Dreher is probably the best bet
Not sure of all the details but it's too bad SV couldn't have postponed construction around the track until after the state meet, esp when qualifiers is still being held there. It's been mentioned that the LR facility may be too small & the Dreher Memorial track is very nice but couldn't adequately accomodate spectators (at Coaches) with limited seating, restrooms, etc. I am somewhat surprised that no other central 4A school stepped up & offered to host the state meet.
Again, I'm certain that a lot of behind-the-scenes work was put into this that we are not aware of but a state meet deserves the best of all efforts & venues possible, for the fans & esp the athletes.
It might be worth noting that Lower Richland did, in fact, host the state track meet in 1999. I would guess that, seating-wise, it is probably the next best track facility in the Columbia area if you can't hold the meet at Spring Valley.
I do not think SV is hosting the AAAA qualifier.
HUH? We thought Spring Valley was definitely hosting the 4A Qualifier? Also we are under the assumption that either Dreher or Lower Richland is hosting the State Meet. Has anything changed?
Dreher definitely did not have adequate restrooms for a large meet.
I've heard that 4a Qualifier was going to be at Blythewood.
Yes i am a blythewood runner n my coach has told me that state qualifiers is at blythewood (but i dont see how we would im not sure where everybody would go).
There was an article in The State newspaper today that addressed some of the issues that have been raised in this forum.
One person stated in another thread that the AD's voted to move to a 3 classification system with two divisions each, making for 6 state championships. The article says that League's Executive Committee turned down the proposal and the system will remain a 4 classification system at least through the next realignment period.
The article also confirmed that the state track meet would be held at either Dreher or Lower Richland. The League appears to be leaning towards Dreher if they could get additional seating space.

Is the 4A state qualifier at Spring Valley still?
From what I saw at Coaches, I would lean toward LR hosting the state meet. Memorial has a good track but not much else around it. If they pick this location again, more seating/bleachers are needed as well as restroom facilities. The concessions were OK but seemed a bit expensive. Hopefully a trainer or medical tent will be available too. At least they offered to have it there.
There was a trainer's tent at Coaches next to the finish line on the other side of the fence.
4A Qualifier is at Blythewood according to what I heard.
Any news on State meet location?
Dher doesn't have the Facilities, meaning there isn't enough bleachers or bathrooms to host the State meet. LR has hosted the Meet before and it is also in Columbia Area. The meet should be in a central location. Columbia is about 1.5 hrs from everything.
State Qualifier is in Blythwood.
This may have already been answered, but why don't they have it at USC? I remember when I threw for JI back in the mid 90's, we had state there. There was plenty of room and the facilities were nice. Seems logical to me.
When usc got a new coach they decided to not to Share the track. I ran the last year they hosted it back in 98. The Following year it was at Lower Richland.
