Battery Creek's Jenkins, Mann's Waller, Pendleton's Stowers post top 10 marks

Battery Creek senior Martin Jenkins posted a top eight national mark in the triple jump at the Bob Hayes Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.

Jenkins leaped 47 feet, 9.5 inches in the event.

Other top marks came from Mann's Brittney Waller in the discus and Pendleton's Jasmin Stowers in the 100-meter hurdles.

Waller heaved the discus 144 feet, two inches at the Golden Corner Invitational in Seneca, good for a top four distance.

"At first when my mom told me that I have the number four throw I was shocked," said Waller. "I realize it will not last for too long. But while it lasts, I will enjoy the accomplishment."

For discus, my throws were very inconsistent. Instead of me going all out and throwing lights out, I was lazy with my footwork. I made large steps and rushed through my throw rather than letting it come naturally. I think I did okay. For shot put, I scratched my first throw, tried to get a mark on the second throw, and threw my third with too much height. Naomi (Atkins) (my teammate) pushed me to throw far. She came out and threw a 40 going into finals and I was so excited for her. When I threw the 44 and got out the pit, she was the first person to congratulate me. My success is her success and vice versa."

Stowers finished first in the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles at the Golden Corner Invitational. Watch an interview with Stowers.

Stowers currently holds the nation's top five spot of 14.18 in the high hurdles following this weekend's competition.

"My performance was good this weekend. I threw my personal record in shot (44-04.25) and finally got back around last year's marks for discus which was exciting," Waller said. "The team did great this weekend. Every time the girls hit the track and perform, there is always someone stepping up to the plate and performing. It's great to know that everyone still remains hungry each and every week."
