Wayzata No. 1 Khalid Hussein Inks With Minnesota


The University of Minnesota scooped up a major talent right in the nick of time, gaining the signature of Wayzata (MN) High senior Khalid Hussein right before the early period for the National Letter of Intent closed on Wednesday. 

Hussein, the No. 1 runner on the Flo50 No. 4-ranked boys team in the country, sports versatility on the track and potential in cross country, posting PBs of 14:56.53 in the 5K and 4:12.57 in the 1600m and 9:10.97 in the 3200m. 

He won his first Minnesota State High School League championship in cross country in November, posting a win in the Class AA boys field in 15:22.60, and then followed with a third-place outing and career best 14:46.53 at NXR Heartland, helping the Trojan boys qualify for NXN yet again. 

It will be the third straight trip to NXN for Hussein. 

The senior is a three-time state medalist in the 1600m and 3200m, earning a runner-up nod in the 1600m in June and a fifth-place nod in the 3200m.
