UPDATED: TN Athletes Heading to 2018 New Balance Nationals

This weekend, the best track athletes in the nation will meet in New York City for the 2018 New Balance Indoor National Championships.

Tennessee will be represented well.

The Volunteer State is sending 26 athletes from 13 different high schools. Four relay teams will also make the trip.

Hardin Valley and Brentwood lead the way with eight entries each. Three of those entries are relay teams for the Hawks, who will bring a 4x4, a boys sprint medley and a girls sprint medley.

Brentwood is anchored by its two main training groups, the distance runners and the multi-event athletes. Four Bruins will compete in the pentathlon competition, led by AAU Club National Champion Kyle Costner. Brodey Hasty will make his season debut in the two mile. He has mainly focused on the mile this indoor season, which included a 4:00.05 earlier this year.

There are 19 boys entries and seven girls entries. Only two of those male athletes will compete in the field, Joshua Sobota and Willington Wright.

Sobota has one of the best chances at a national title out of this year's group of in-state athletes. He's currently No. 4 in the country in the boys shot put with a throw of 67-5 at UK. Between him and Hasty, we're confident that Tennessee may have a national indoor champion this weekend.
