Irmo's Buchanan Strives for Top 8 in Bojangles HJ

How would you rate your season so far?
So far my season my season has been doing pretty great. I've been able to become more consistent with my jumps. My times for the 100 hurdles have been improving as well.

What do you hope to achieve this weekend at Bojangles Track & Field Classic in the
high jump?
At Bojangles, I'm striving to jump 5'10", and be in the top 8.

What does it mean to compete in the Bojangles Track & Field Classic as a national-caliber meet?

Being apart of Bojangles Track and Field Classic is a great accomplishment. There's a lot of competition, so you're exposed to jumpers, runners and throwers not only in your state, but in other states as well.

How do you see the event unfolding?

Individually, I see myself improving my personal best in my events. I see my teammates performing at their optimum level and as a team, I see us functioning as a well oiled machine, and achieving goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the season.

What will you prep be like the rest of this week?
To prep for Bojangles, I'm going to make sure I get plenty of rest, keep a healthy diet, stay hydrated and continue to practice. Prayer and meditation will also be a key component.

How do you handle meet day preparations?
On the day of the meet, I listen to music to keep me focus. I exercise with my team, and then walk around and do more stretching to keep me loose.

How did you get involved in the sport?
I started getting involved in track when I was doing club at about 8 or 9 years old. I stopped for a while, and then started back again in middle school, and have continued ever since.
