Horn Vaults 13-07.25; Breaks PA State Record

One day one of the District 3 Championships, Mackenzie Horn took down the all-time Pennsylvania state record in the pole vault.

Horn, a Manheim Township senior, cleared 13-07.25 to break Katie Jones' previous state record of 13-07 by a quarter inch. It also gave Horn her first AAA district title in a loaded District 3 competition Friday afternoon.

It didn't come without a twist. Because of poor weather, the pole vault was moved inside to Shippensburg University's Ship Rec. Indoors and away from the track, Horn vaulted into Pennsylvania history. The only question that remains is if the record should stand as an outdoor record or an indoor record. But regardless, 13-07.25 is the best all-conditions vault in state history (the consensus has been it's currently an indoor record).

In a dual meet less than two weeks ago, Horn jumped 13-06, before she won the Lebanon-Lancaster League title in the event last weekend. Her 13-07.25 jump from Friday improves upon her own PA#1 and moves her to US#6.

Horn will enter as the top seed in next weekend's PIAA State Championships, which is loaded with talent.
