Fleet Feet Greenville Hosting Clinic With Benson

Fleet Feet Sports, located on Augusta Road in Greenville is hosting a monitoring and performance clinic on May 12, from 7-9 p.m. Nike Timing is sponsoring the event, where Coach Roy Benson is the speaker.

Nike Timing and Coach Benson will speak on how to train with Nike Heart Rate Monitors, Speed/Distance Monitors, and Performance watches.

Benson has coahces professionally for 40 years for military, club, university and high school teams. During Benson's tenure at the University of Florida (1969-79) he was the President and Executive Director of the Florida Track Club that placed marathon gold medallist Frank Shorter, ninth place marathoner Jack Bachelor, Jeff Galloway and Ron Jourdan on the 1972 USA Olympic Marathon Team.

Since 1993, Benson has been a part-time Community Coach for Marist School in Atlanta. His boys and girls teams have won nine state 4A cross-country championships.

Benson is an exercise scientist and distance running coach. Benson has presented over 500 professional papers and lectures for academic and popular audiences. He is currently Senior Writer for Running Times and Contributing Editor for Running Journal magazines.

Benson ran competitively for 40 years with personal bests of 1:53.4 for 880 yards and 4:19.8 for the mile. As a master's runner, Benson has run a 36:06 10k, 17:22 for 5k, 4:52 for the mile and has qualified for the Boston Marathon with a 3:09.05 PR.
