Summerville alumna Precious Akins threw the discus 169-09 feet, a personal best by more than one foot and a half at the SEC Championships in Oxford, MS. Akins, a freshman at South Carolina finished fourth in the women's discus.
Akins mark betters old her own NCAA regional qualifying mark. The NCAA region meet for Akins and USC is set for May 29. Akins now holds the USC freshman record, third all-time mark in school history and the best mark by a Gamecock in eight years.
Akins was a three time track and field MVP at Summerville. Akins captured the 4A State Track and Field Discus Title in 2003. Akins is majoring in Nursing at USC.
