ANDERSON COUNTY -- Pendleton freshman runner Elizabeth Sue Ayers died Saturday after being struck by a vehicle on Five Forks Road in Anderson County, the Anderson Independent-Mail reported Saturday.
Pendleton coach Warren Wheeler confirmed Ayers was a member of the cross country team. Warren said Ayers started to run for the Bulldogs in seventh grade.
"A sad, sad day for everyone associated with Pendleton High School with the passing of Elizabeth Ayers," said Wheeler Saturday on facebook. Our loss is heaven's gain. For all who have faith in Christ, we are not saying "goodbye" to Elizabeth today, but instead we are saying "see you later. I will miss her smiling face and friendly spirit."
