Coaches meet for SCTCCCA XC business meeting

GREENVILLE -- South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association president Daniel Brooks opened up the cross country portion of the association meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Carolina First Center.

The track and field business meeting is slated for Wednesday at 2 p.m. Elections for officer positions is scheduled for Wednesday.

The officers have a meeting Wednesday morning.

Earlier today, Winthrop cross country and track and field staff members spoke on several topics related to the sports.

Brooks started the meeting discussing registering as a member of the association and the procedure.

Eastside coach and sctrackworld.us webmaster Ed Boehmke talked about the 2010 schedule. Meet directors present were given the chance to discuss events hosted at their school.

South Carolina High School League representative Nessie Harris presented the NFHS 2009 State Coach of the Year for boys cross country award to Bishop England coach Tony Colizzi.

Stephanie Young (not present) was awarded the girls cross country award.

Spring Valley coach John Jones discussed that adding announcers to SCTCCCA Coaches Classic and state meet would help inform spectators the race in action and add more to the event. Jones asked coaches for input on any ideas on possible candidates.

Jones also discussed Class A girls will have its own cross country state meet race this year and how this will change the schedule.

Longtime coach Bob Jenkins set a motion to have a state cross country meet start one hour earlier. The current start time is 9 a.m.

Jenkins also discussed former state runner Ian Davidson, Jr. and his health issues. Jenkins visited Davidson today in a Greenville hospital.
