Winthrop University Invitational

The Winthrop University Invitational took place this Saturday in Rock Hill at the University Farm. Winthrop University hosted collegiate and high school teams.

The overall winner of the boys 5k race was Ian Aldrich of East Mecklenburg High School. Aldrich ran a time of 17:07.14 in front of Brandon Hudgins from Northwestern High School (17:15.36). The individual winner in the girls 5k race was Angelina Blackmon of Northwestern High School with a time of 19:25.69. Teammate Tiayonna Blackmon placed 2nd in 21:13.44.

On the boy's side Northwestern High School captured the team title with 35 points over Fort Mill High School (50). The girl's team champion was Northwestern High School with 39 points over Bishop England High School (68).

In the Gold Race Tommy Evans of High Point captured the individual title in 25:09.14 over Radford opponent Goran Mava. In the men's collegiate 8k Garnet race Travis Smith of USC Spartanburg captured the individual title in 26:47.62. Teammates Clark Davis and Travis Vaughn placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. High Point University captured the men's Gold title and USC Spartanburg captured the men's Garnet title.

In the Garnet race on the women's side Margaux Cowan-Banks of Carson Newman College outran teammate Tina Schowiak to capture the individual title in 19:17.01. In the women's Gold race Stephanie Vangsnes of Winthrop University won the individual title over Charleston Southern opponent Lindsey McPherson in 18:14.54. UNC Asheville captured the female Gold race title with 52 points over Davidson University (71). Carson Newman College captured the female Garnet title.

Next weekend in South Carolina is the Citadel Invitational in Charleston and the Pee Dee Classic in Florence.
