Well-known coach Jack Daniels speaking in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG -- Doctor Jack Daniels, the recently-hired coach at Brevard College in N.C., is speaking Friday night at USC Upstate prior to Saturday's Eye Opener meet at The Roger Milliken Saturday.

Daniels previously coached at the Center for High Altitude Training. Prior to this Daniels coached at the State University of New York at Cortland where his athletes won eight national championships, 31 individual national titles and 130 All-American awards.

The event, that also includes a dinner, is $10 and starts at 6 p.m. at the USC Upstate Campus Life Center Ballroom.

Saturday's meet starts with the college women's race at 8 a.m. followed by the men at 8:30 a.m. High school action starts at 9 a.m. with international girls and boys then at 9:30 a.m. Championship girls starts at 10 a.m. and boys at 10:30 a.m. The meet concludes with junior varsity boys at 11 a.m. and girls at 11:05 a.m.

Sixty-one high school teams and 21 college teams are entered in the meet. Individually, 1,795 high school runners are entered and 438 college runners are entered.
