Just noticed that SCISA region winners didn't get mentioned. In SCISA Region 1-AAA, Stephen Ridley (Heathwood) was in at 17:47 and Brooke Grice (Heathwood) won in 19:25. In Region 3-AAA, Brent Demarest (Porter-Gaud) won in 16:26, and Sarah Garratt (Hilton Head Prep)won in 19:26.

CoachSalley I haven't had chance to finish is why.
And also wondering, are there more scisa region meets with results missing? That's first step in scisa getting more coverage.

hyperionxc There is a third AAA region, which I think was won by Wilson Hall. I don't know if they turned results in, though. I don't think the A-AA schools in SCISA hold region meets. For what it's worth, SCISA is very similar to SCHSL class A--notice how many of those regions didn't report, either. There is an upper-tier of both leagues that is almost identical (indeed, St. Joseph's recently moved from SCISA to 1A), and then both leagues have a pretty substantial dropoff, with the only real difference being that there are a lot more total teams in 1A. That said, if you look at the times, especially on the girls' side, SCISA's individual and team region winners fit right into the mix of the public schools at all levels.
SCISA 2A doesn't have Region meets. I wouldn't mind the coverage, but I'm not complaining.

SCA_Coach Has it been discussed to have region meets?
@
CoachSalley Understandable and good insight. I also have to gatekeep where I spend most of my resources as I try to increase coverage and get busier in all forms of life each half second it seems like.

SCA_Coach Has it been discussed to have region meets?
@hyperionxc
Not that I am aware- but I would be the last to know.

CoachSalley Just wondering...because there are comparable programs in both organizations, would the SCHSL and SCISA ever come to the table to explore a joint State Championship Meet? Obviously, teams would be scored and awarded separately. This would allow both organizations to be spotlighted in the media and be a year-end, "settle any questions" meet (for teams and individuals).

tayloga If you were to ask coaches in SCISA, we'd almost certainly go for it. If you were to ask our league office, I don't know if they would. One reason our state meet is a week earlier is because it clears the decks for football playoffs, and there are not enough SCISA officials to do both simultaneously. What I'd really love to see is a post-season "meet of champions" with the top couple of schools from each division. Fortunately, the SCISA state meet course at Heathwood is pretty similar, time-wise, to Sandhills. Several years ago our kids raced at Poinsett State Park on a course that was both slow and a little long. At least now comparing the times is a little closer.

CoachSalley That's good information to know. I really like the "Race of Champions" idea. Maybe sponsored by SCRUNNERS.com and hosted jointly by the Coaches Association and SCISA??? Possibly switch locations between Sandhills and Heathwood Hall? Again, would help promote the sport in the media. Thanks for the dialogue.

tayloga running with this idea, I zapped together a virtual matchup between the top 2 teams in each division in the Nov 1 poll. In both cases, the top two in SCISA happen to also be the two state champions for our two divisions, so that worked out. It comes out pretty much like the overall top 10 poll, but it's a neat exercise. Even so, there would be some controversy as to who gets into a Meet of Champions; many years the 3rd-best team in AAAA is superior to a state champ or runner-up in other divisions, for example. Somebody always gets to be the Boise State, I suppose. As long as we're imagining, perhaps they could also include the top 5 or so individuals whose teams didn't make it in. If nothing else, it would be one more good week of the season before Foot Locker!
