COLUMBIA -- Lexington boys and Wando girls started off day one of the state meet with meet records in the Class AAAA 4x800-meter relays.

Lexington boys ran a new meet record of 7 minutes, 48.95 seconds, good for top 14th nationally. Lead pack splits: (1:57, 1:58, 1:56, 1:56). Lexington interview with race highlights

Spartanburg boys were close behind the Wildcats and during the last exchange the Vikings dropped the baton with Nate Gordon and Lexington's Colby Coulter racing to a six second finish difference. 

Spring Valley held the previous record (7:53), set in 2010.

Wando girls ran a time of 9 minutes, 25.40 seconds. The previous record was 9:27 (Summerville, 2007). Wando interview with race highlights

Chapin senior Mason Zandi won the shot put (52-03.5) and discus (151-02).

Hilton Head boys won a close race in the Class AAA 4x800 in 8:09 to Chapin with a time of 8:09.19.
