Athletes of the year are based on input from an unnamed panel and information solely from 2012 track and field outdoor high school league regular season. 

Girls track: SheKara Martin (Ridge View) 

Martin won the 100 (11.92) and 200 (24.30) at state. Finished fourth in 100 and 200 at Taco Bell Classic. Finished first in 100 at SCTCCCA Coaches Classic. Top times in state this season (11.78 and 24.19). 

Girls field: Jalacy Green (Colleton County)

Green won shot put (42 feet, nine inches) and discus (128 feet, four inches) at state. Green finished first in discus and shot put at Outback Classic and Wingtime Classic. Top throws in state this season (134 feet, six inches) and 45 feet, five inches).

Boys track: Andre Watson (Whale Branch) 

Watson set a state record of 21.16 in the 200. He also had the fastest time in the 100 (10.51) at the state meet. Also helped team to 4x400 title and Class A team trophy. Top time in state this season.

Boys field: Montay Crockett (South Pointe)

Crockett set a personal best of 24 feet, six inches to win long jump at state, ranked 14th nationally. Won at SCTCCCA Coaches Classic in long jump. Top long jump in state this season.
