The East Region Championships took place from May 28-29 at Percy Beard Track on the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville. The top five individually in the finals and the top three relays in the finals qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships that is set for June 9-12 in Austin, TX. Several South Carolina Collegiate athletes competed in the regional meet.
An event that brings all types and ages of track and field athletes is coming to Greenville. The 2004 South Carolina Open and Master\'s Track and Field Classic is set for May 29 at Furman University\'s Irwin Belk Track and Field complex. Furman is located off Poinsett Highway in Greenville. Eastside High School is hosting the meet. Ed Boehmke and Adrian Craven are the meet directors.
Reid Wilson is a rising senior at Spring Valley High School. Wilson finished second at the 2003 State Cross-Country Championships, helping Spring Valley capture the team title with a finishing time of 15:44.99. Wilson finished first in the mile (4:19.79) at the 2004 State Track and Field Championships. Wilson placed fourth in the 4A 3200 (9:54.21) State Meet event.
Margo Robinson is a senior at Gardner-Webb University. GWU is located in Boiling Springs, N.C. and is a D-I member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Robinson will earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education in May 2005. While at James Island High School (Charleston) Robinson captured three long jump state titles.
Brian Raymond is walking on Colorado State\'s running program in the fall as a freshman. Raymond, a senior at Spring Valley also applied and was accepted to North Carolina State, Virginia Tech and Clemson. \"These schools interested me because they have had my major - Fisheries Science/Biology,\" said Raymond. \"And they all have good cross-country/track teams.\"
Breaking the meet record in the 4x55 hurdle relay at the Nike Indoor Championships, that took place from March 13-14 in Landover, MD was just a start for Westside\'s boy\'s team as they broke the two-year old record.

Summerville alumna Precious Akins threw the discus 169-09 feet, a personal best by more than one foot and a half at the SEC Championships in Oxford, MS. Akins, a freshman at South Carolina finished fourth in the women\'s discus.

The South Carolina State Track and Field Championships took place from May 7-8 at Spring Valley High School in Columbia. The 3A/4A portion of the meet started on Friday and concluded early Saturday afternoon. A and 2A action took place on Saturday afternoon and evening.
