Athlete name: Anna Todd

Year of graduation: 2012

Best times in a 5K and in which meet.
18:44 at Wendy's Invitational in 2010.

How did your summer training go?
I increased my mileage by 15-percent this summer, and have been doing a lot of trail running.  We have also been doing a lot of core work like circuit training to build strength.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?
I would like for Spartanburg High School to be on the podium at the state championship.  I would also like to improve my 5000 meter time.

How long have you been running and how did you get started?
I started running competitively in the seventh grade, although I ran some throughout elementary school. My dad and older sister encouraged me to go out for cross country the summer before my seventh grade year.

What is it like to have a father involved with the sport and directing the Eye Opener meet that kicks off the season?
I really enjoy having my dad as the girls coach at Spartanburg.  It's fun to always have someone to run with and to always have someone to answer any questions that I have about running. It's cool to be able to run in the Eye Opener now, since I spent a lot of years helping out at the meet when I was in elementary school.

Did you attend a summer camp, if so how was it?
Our team went to Rocky Bottom in July, where we trained twice-a-day in the mountains.  We all bonded a lot as a team and got to build our mileage base with long runs.

Will you be competing out of state this season?
We will go to Wendy's Invitational in October, and hopefully I will be able to run Foot Locker (South) in November.

What is your favorite course to run in your state?
My favorite course is Sandhills in Columbia.  We run there twice a year - SCTCCCA Coaches Classic and the state championship.

What is the toughest course to run in your state?
The S.C.S.D.B. Eye Opener (The Roger Milliken Center).  It's the first big meet of the season, and the final hill is really difficult.

What is your favorite cross country race so far in your high school career?
The state championship last fall.  There were so many girls at the same level and it was great competition.

What is your favorite cross country memory?
When Spartanburg won the state championship in 2008. It was awesome to see all of our hard work pay off, after being runner up for two years in a row.

What is your favorite quote?
"To give less than your best is to sacrifice the gift" - Steve Prefontaine
