Best times in a 5K and in which meet.
My best time is 18:41 and I ran it at the Heritage Invitational last season. It's a fast course and I got to run against two of the state's top runners: Brittany Williams (Mauldin) and Caroline Jennings (Christ Church).

Tell us how your summer training is going?
My summer training has definitely been a lot more intense than previous years. I had set a goal at the beginning of the summer to increase my miles and as of now I am still on track to reach this goal. The SCA CC teams, both boys and girls, are working hard and I am excited about what we can accomplish this season.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?
My goals for running are pretty simple. I believe God has given me a gift and so I just want to do my best with my running and leave the results to Him. I would like to get under 19 minutes early in the season and then see what happens from there.  That's the fun part...

How long have you been running and how did you get started?
I've been running four years. My PE teachers kept telling me that I was a good runner. I started running with my dad and we trained for a 5K together.  After that, I started running USATF meets against other kids my age.  That's when I found out I wasn't too bad.

Will you be competing out of state this season?
Unfortunately, no.  Last year I ran the USATF meets in Maryland (Regionals) and Alabama (Nationals).  This year, they are all in South Carolina (yeah!). I enjoy traveling and meeting runners from other states. I met an entire family (all 15 of them) from N.C. last year while we were in Maryland and then caught up with them at Nationals.

What is your favorite course to run in your state?
Heritage Park in Simpsonville. It has long straightaways and when we run there the temperature has cooled off to "just right" for running.

What is the toughest course to run in your state?
Landrum High School's home course is pretty tough. It has a variety of terrains and a long hill and a short, steep one too.

What is your favorite cross country race so far in your high school career?
The Spartanburg County Meet 2010 was pretty special. I was in second place at the 2,000-meter mark, Ashley Hrubala (Byrnes) was in the lead and Samantha Waters (Landrum), Evie Tate and Anna Todd (Spartanburg) were behind me. I knew that the finish was going to be interesting. I was just focused on Ashley. I passed her just beyond the 3,000-meter mark and just kept running hard.  I won that race and found out I had broken the county record set by Stephanie Buffo (Dorman).

Favorite cross country memory?
Breaking the tape at Eye Opener 2010 was real cool. I had never done something like that before. I had seen it done on TV so that made it special.

When you are not running what is your favorite thing to do?
Spending time with my friends. Running demands a lot of time, so when I get a chance to just 'hang out', I take full advantage of it, which includes a little extra sleep when I can.

Favorite quote?
"God has a purpose for me and that is to serve Him in China, but God also made me to run fast and when I run, I feel His pleasure." Eric Liddel in "Chariots of Fire"  / "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31.
