Clemson XC 1973: A team to remember 40 years later Sep 6, 2013

“You four guys were all on the same Clemson Cross Country Team in 1973?  Really?  Wow, you must have had a great team!”  That statement, that reaction, has been exclaimed to me many times over the decades when other runners would first learn that Dean Matthews, Dave Geer, Roy Kulikowski and I were all members of the Clemson University Cross Country team in the fall of 1973.

On the Fourth of July we debuted newly re-designed athlete profiles. The athlete pages on MileSplit are a unique hybrid between social media and traditional media. Most of the content on the pages is produced and curated by MileSplit editors; however, we also allow athletes or parents to claim the profile and take a bit of control themselves. The personalization options though--up to now--have been pretty limited, mostly serving as a generic professional athletic resume.

Hilton Head in good position for another title run Nov 1, 2013

HILTON HEAD ISLAND – Over the past four years, the boys and girls cross country teams at Hilton Head High have either finished as state champs or runners up, and both teams are in very good positions to improve on that remarkable run heading into the 2013 finale next weekend at Sandhills.

Dorman High School has gone to Appalachian State University for cross country camp for as long as we can remember. This is our sixth year going. It’s a four day camp full of running and fun activities. Boone has many great places to train which allows us to experience a different scenery.

PENDLETON – Three years ago next spring, longtime coach Jim Kilbreth retired, following the same path his wife and fellow coach, Eileen, took two years earlier.  That move left only one husband/wife coaching duo in South Carolina cross country, Pendleton’s Warren and Pam Wheeler, who together continue to lead the Bulldog boys and girls to top finishes in Class AA.

The South Carolina Track & Cross Country Coaches Association has announced its 2013 Cross Country Coaches of the Year based on the guidelines set forth in the SCTCCCA Constitution.

SCHSL State: Class AAAA boys virtual meet Nov 7, 2013

Mauldin, Wade Hampton and Wando are in contention for team title with defending champion in the top four. Lexington senior Zack Langston is favorite for the team title with eight in the field that have run under 16 minutes this season. 

Oct. 1 SCTCCCA boys poll released Oct 1, 2013

Rankings are based on a 12-person all coaches panel. Individual rankings are pulled directly from the scrunners.com database. Girls rankings to be posted Tuesday night. 

SCHSL State: Class AAA girls virtual meet Nov 7, 2013

James Island, Hilton Head favorites for team title. James Island's Mary Stewart Wilson and A.C. Flora's Susannah Cate, both sophomores, have run under 19 minutes this season. Twenty-one girls have broken the 20 minute barrier in Class AAA girls.

Riverside girls break state cross country record Nov 9, 2013
