Megan Jenkins is a rising sophomore at The Citadel. Jenkins is from Cheyenne, WY and is training around the James Island area this summer.

Weekly Total Mileage: 40.5 miles
Month Total Mileage: 81 miles
Summer Total Mileage: 161 miles

June 12 - 6 mile run, half-mile swim
Went down to school early and went for a half-mile swim to supplement my running miles because I\'m currently nursing a heel injury. After I finished with the pool I changed and went for an easy six miles (7:15/mile)

June 13 - 4 mile run
An easy four miles, lots of core exercise (3x50 push ups/abs/3x3:00 wall-sit)

June 14 - 6 mile run, one hour bike ride
Easy six miles in the morning, middle two at about 7/6:55 pace, other four in 7:15/7:30. Afterwords I went to the trainer to ice/ultrasound/stretch my foot...it feels like it\'s getting better. I just need to make sure I get in there everyday and get treatment regularly. After dinner I got my mountain bike out and went for a good hard hour long bike ride. Got lost on some dirt roads, brought back memories and made me miss trail riding/running in Colorado in the mountains. ( My quads are really sore now... :), core workout (3x50 push ups/abs).

June 15 - 5 mile run, 40 minute bike ride
I slept in on accident so I waited until after class in the afternoon to go running. The first four (miles) were pretty easy, about 7:30 pace. For the last mile I picked it up (wanted to see if I had any speed left from track season) and hit about a six minute miile, maybe a couple of seconds under. Right after that I grabbed my bike and went for a pretty solid 40 minutes around James Island. South Carolina is such a pretty state! :)

June 16 - 5 mile run, 30 minute bike ride
Pretty easy run, again, I slept in so I waited until about 7:40 in the evening to avoid the heat. Took the bike out for a cooldown.

June 17 - 4.5 mile run (20:30 5k tempo), one hour bike ride
Well I hit a 20:30 after a really short warm up (half mile), not too bad for this point during the summer.

Note: Summer training really has helped a whole lot, while we aren\'t required to do it, I finally trained over the summer going into my freshman year at The Citadel and I took about one minute, 30 seconds off my 5K time. I ran faster today in a tempo run by 20 seconds than I did during high school :). The goal is to take off another minute to minute and a half, so I need to work hard this summer. I went on an hour long bike ride earlier in the day, trying to get accustomed to the hotter parts of the day to where I can run during the heat. Later I did another core workout (3x50 push ups, lots of abs).

June 18 - 10 mile run
Long run today. 10 miles is still a really long distance to me :). In high school the longest distance I had ever run was eight miles. And I only did that once...the longest run other than that was about five miles. The longest I\'ve ever done was 13 (miles) the summer before coming to The Citadel. 10 miles is still a pretty big barrier though, not physically, just mentally, as are most of the barriers in running. My foot is just about better, I still do need to ice it and take it easy for another week or so to ensure that I don\'t re-injure it.
