Stroud And Jenkins Close Out Cross Country Careers At NCAA Southeast Regional

Senior Shayna Jenkins Led Winthrop Women At Southeast Regionals
EARLYSVILLE, VA--Winthrop senior distance runners Jeanne Stroud and Shayna Jenkins closed out their cross country careers on Friday as they were among 265 competitors at the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships that were held at Panorama Farms near Charlottesville.

Stroud (Charleston, SC) finished 133rd in the 6K race with a time of 22:55.2 while Jenkins (Columbia, SC) bettered that time with a 120th place finish in 22:46.8. As a team the Winthrop women placed 33rd out of 38 schools and were fifth among the nine Big South schools who competed.

Also running for the Eagles were juniors Tristan Langley (Belmont, Nova Scotia) and Sarah Devaux (Ft. Walton Beach, FL), and freshman Jaclyn Baker (Rock Hill, SC). Langley finished 183rd with a time of 23:33.0 while Devaux was 203rd at 23:50.4. Baker finished 257th with a time of 26:26.1.

Emily Stiles of William & Mary was the individual champion with a time of 19:57.50.

Winthrop's men were also represented in the regional 10K championship as junior Ellis Coe (Coral Springs, FL), freshman Blake White and sophomore Colby Coulter (both from Lexington, SC) competed in the 239-man field. Coe led the Winthrop trio with a 179th place finish in 32:45.6 while White was 195th in 33:22.6. Coulter finished 233rd with a time of 36:47.0.

Winthrop's men were not included in the team results as the Eagles did not compete with the required minimum five runners.

The individual men's champion was Paul Chelimo of UNC Greensboro who was clocked in a time of 28:37.30.

Virginia and William & Mary finished first and second in the women's race while Eastern Kentucky and Virginia were the top two finishers in the men's race. Those four teams qualified for the NCAA National Championships that will be held Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, IN.
