SCTCCCA holds winter meeting


The South Carolina track and cross country coaches association held their winter meeting Saturday morning at the high school league office in Columbia.

Coaches of the year
Mann's Kate Borowicz (not in attendance) and Broome's Stefan Shealy were honored at the meeting for having the fastest times at the state cross country meet on November 4, 2006. Borowicz won the Class AAA girls race in 18:05 and Shealy won the Class AA boys race in 15:38.

The association also announced coaches of the year at the meeting. The following coaches won team state titles and named coaches of the year: Rodney Adamee (Christ Church boys), Scott Barefield (Fort Mill boys-not in attendance), Tony Colizzi (Bishop England girls), Dana House (Bluffton boys), Delmer Howell (Mauldin girls), Ron Sullivan (Daniel girls), and Warren Wheeler (Pendleton boys).

Hercules Salley (Orangeburg-Wilkinson) and Steve Wilson (Summerville) are the 2007 inductees in the coaches hall of fame. Salley and Wilson will be inducted at Coaches Classic on March 24 at Spring Valley.

Salley, a retired coach, started the Orangeburg track club and had a dual record of 239-19. Wilson, the first meet director of Coaches Classic while at Socastee, now coaches at Summerville.

Pelion coach Mark Bedenbaugh discussed Ben Lippen coach George Johnson's condition following his melanoma surgery in Charleston earlier this week.
