FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Track and Field team capped off the NCAA West Preliminary Round Saturday with 28 qualifiers for the national outdoor meet which will be held next month in Eugene, Ore.

The top-ranked women collected 16 qualifiers in 12 events over the last three days at the University of Arkansas, which held one of the two national regionals this weekend. The No. 7 men will have 12 qualifiers in 10 events. Decathletes Johannes Hock and Wolf Mahler were already among the men's qualifiers, though they did so by virtue of the their regular-season performance. There was no decathlon competition at the regional meet.

The top 12 times/marks in each event at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds earned berths to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Individual events featured 48 athletes at each regional and the relays were pared from 24 down to 12.

"It was a complete and total team effort over the weekend," head coach Mario Sategna said. "It's more than just showing up and saying 'run fast and throw far.' There is a lot of attention to detail by the athletes and staff, and you can see where that paid huge dividends."

Saturday saw the Longhorns post 11 qualifiers (six women/five men) during action at John McDonnell Field. The men and women both qualified in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay.

After qualifying in the 100 meters Friday, Morolake Akinosun did the same in the 200, clocking a personal-best 22.68 seconds, the No. 2 time in Saturday's quarterfinal.

Kendall Baisden, Courtney Okolo and Ashley Spencer joined Akinosun in the quarterfinal of the 4x100-meter relay. That foursome clocked a 43.84, the third-best qualifying time.

Baisden, Okolo and Spencer qualified for nationals in the 400 on Friday, as did Briana Nelson who ran the opening of leg of the 4x400-meter relay. Okolo, Baisden and Akinosun, who ran the anchor leg, joined Nelson. They easily won the first heat in 3:28.27. That time was off their national-leading 3:25.05 posted at the Penn Relays, but more than four seconds ahead of second-place Baylor.

The men's 4x100 quartet of Charles Anumnu, Zack Bilderback, Senoj-Jay Givans and Chris Irvin crossed the finish line in 39.69, which was fourth in the first of three heats and 11th overall.

Irvin and Bilderback also keyed the 4x400-meter relay, which qualified for nationals by finishing third in the first of three heats in 3:06.85. Irvin ran the opening leg then handed off to Bilderback who blazed around the track in an unofficial 45.23 to take the lead. Freshmen Pieter Conradie and Wolf Mahler handled the final two legs.

"One big goal for the men's program this year was to advance both relays to the national meet and we were able to do that, which is not as easy task in this region," Sategna said. "Most of the top teams in the relays are in the west."

Givans qualified for nationals in the 100 on Friday and then earned a spot Saturday in the 200. The freshman clocked a personal-best 20.67 in the 200 quarterfinal. He was third in his heat and eighth overall.

Two days after qualifying for the national meet in the shot put, Ryan Crouser punched his ticket in the discus, along with teammate Will Spence. Crouser finished third with a toss of 201 feet, 8 inches (61.48) and Spence was ninth with a mark of 190-3 (57.99m). Both of those tosses came on their first of six attempts each.

"After not getting through in the shot put, Will did a great job of keeping his composure and making it though in the discus," Sategna said.

Senior Shanay Briscoe will make her fourth-straight appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump. She had to make just two attempts Saturday, hitting both, to become one of 12 qualifiers. She cleared 5-7 3/4 (1.72m) and then 5-9 3/4 (1.77m). The competition ended once there were only 12 left.

Junior Morgan Snow will make her third appearance at the NCAA Outdoor meet after clocking a 12.93 in the third heat of the 100-meter hurdle quarterfinal. Her time was third overall.

Freshman Spencer Dunkerley-Offor did not qualify in the 110-meter hurdles despite posting a 13.86, his third-best time of the season. He was 16th in the quarterfinal after clocking a personal-best 13.83 during Friday's first round.

Marielle Hall continued her outstanding senior season. She came into meet with the second-best 5,000-meter time in the nation this season and cruised to victory in her heat in 16:08.97 to automatically qualify for the national meet. Her time was sixth overall in the 48-woman field.

"She looked very, very strong and felt like it was a comfortable race for her to advance," Sategna said. "Now we're looking forward to her mixing it up in the finals at the national meet."

Hall won the 2013 Big 12 Cross Country title, the mile and 3,000 at the 2014 league indoor meet, and the 1,500 two weeks ago at the conference outdoor championships. Now she will make her second trip to the national meet. Hall competed in the 1,500 at outdoors in 2012.

"Now we have a week back in Austin to train and get ready for nationals," Sategna said.

The NCAA Outdoor Championships are scheduled for Wednesday, June 11 through Saturday, June 14.

Longhorn Notes
• The Longhorns started Saturday with 17 qualifiers (10 in women's events, seven in men's) for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Wolf Mahler and Johannes Hock qualified in the decathlon by virtue of their regular season marks. Mahler tallied 7,602 at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships and Hock, defending NCAA champion in the event, posted a total of 7,573 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Those marks rank 10th and 12th, respectively, on the 2014 NCAA performer's list. On Thursday, Texas gained five more qualifiers: Ryan Crouser (shot put), Fabian Jara Dohmann (javelin), Olivia Mickle (10,000m), Kaitlin Petrillose (pole vault) and Reese Watson (pole vault). The Longhorns added 10 on Friday: Ashley Spencer, Courtney Okolo, Briana Nelson and Kendall Baisden in the 400m, Danielle Dowie and Melissa Gonzalez in the 400mh, as well as Senoj-Jay Givans (100m), Morolake Akinosun (100m), Zack Bilderback (400m) and Katie Hoaldridge (800m).
• Ryan Crouser qualified to the national outdoor meet in both the shot put and discus for the third-straight season. He won the NCAA outdoor title in the shot put last year, as well as at the 2014 indoor meet, and was eighth in the discus. In 2012, he was fourth in the discus and 16th in the shot put at outdoors. Crouser's winning toss in the shot put – 66 11 1/4 (20.40m) – at the NCAA West Preliminary Round ranks No. 13 on the UT all-time performance list. He now has six of the top 13 performances in school history. His discus mark of 201-8 (61.48m) at the West Prelim ranks No. 12 on the UT performance list.
• Senoj-Jay Givans' time of 10.16 in Friday's 100-meter quarterfinal is tied for the fifth fastest on the UT all-time performance list. He set the school record with a time of 10.10 in the prelim at the 2014 Big 12 Championships. Givans and Johnny 'Lam' Jones are the only two Longhorns to run 10.16 or faster twice. Jones ran 10.14 at both the 1977 Texas Relays and 1978 NCAA Championships. That was the UT record until Brendan Christian ran 10.11 at the 2004 NCAA Regional. Givans also qualified in the 200 on Saturday, running a personal-best 20.67 in the quarterfinal. That time moves him to No. 10 on the UT all-time performer's list.
• Olivia Mickle finished fourth in the semifinal of the 10,000 meters on Thursday evening. Her time of 34:08.53 ranks seventh on the school's all-time performance. Mickle clocked the second-best time (33:40.14) in UT history in April at the Penn Relays.
• Brittany Marches nearly snapped her own school record in the steeplechase Friday. Marches finished 22nd in the quarterfinal in 10:27.24, just off her UT mark of 10:26.90. Marches, a senior, ends her career with the top 10 steeplechase times in school history. She snapped Dawn Domashk's school mark of 10:53.18 (set 5/19/03) by clocking a time of 10:40.45 on April 19, 2012. She went on to eclipse her own mark four times.
• Zack Bilderback's 45.70 in Friday's 400-meter quarterfinal ranks tied for 11th on the UT all-time performance. His personal-best 45.66 posted at the Big 12 Championships is No. 10.
• Morolake Akinosun clocked a personal-best 22.68 in Saturday's quarterfinal of the 200 meters. That time moves Akinosun to No. 7 on the UT all-time performer's list and ranks No. 10 on the performance chart.
