scrunners: What events did you compete in this summer for the Quick Striders?
beesley: I ran the 800, 1500, 5000, and Steeplechase this summer with the Quick Striders.

scrunners: How many years have you been running for the Quick Striders?
beesley: I have been running for the Quick Striders for seven years.

scrunners: When did you start to run?
beesley: I started to run in the fifth grade.

scrunners: Does anyone else in your family run?
beesley: My dad runs.

scrunners: What keeps you motivated to get out the door everyday to run?
beesley: Running with my team keeps me motivated.

scrunners: What goals are you setting for this season and the upcoming track season?
beesley: My goal is to win state in the two-mile.

scrunners: Based on your 10th place finish at the state CC meet last season, what are you looking to achieve your senior year?
beesley: I am aiming for the top three (at state).

scrunners: At the 2003, state track meet, you finished second in the 1600 closely behind Steve Boyd of Summerville and also captured the 3200 title. How close were these two races and how did they unfold?
beesley: In the 1600 I knew (Steve) Boyd had a faster kick than me so I tried to press the pace with about 500 to go. He went with me and had a little more speed at the end. In the 3200 I wanted to hang back and let the race hinge on the last three laps. It was a great feeling to finally get a state championship title.

scrunners: Have you ever thought about running in college? If so, where and what event (s) would you like to compete in?
beesley: I haven't decided where I am going just yet. I would really like to focus on the steeplechase. I will probably run the 5,000 and 10,000 also.

scrunners: What kind of training shoes and racers do you wear? Why did you choose these shoes?
beesley: I run in Asics because they are good to run fast in.

scrunners: How many years have you run at Greenwood? Did you start to run track or cross-country first?
beesley: I have run at Greenwood for five years and started to run cross-country first?

scrunners: Who do you admire the most and why?
beesley: I admire my mother because she comes to all the meets and she encourages me whether I have a good or bad race.

scrunners: What is the most prestigious meet you have run in? How did you do?
beesley: I competed in the Virginia Tech indoor meet. I competed against (Matt) Debole, (Chris) Solinsky, etc...I ran alright.

scrunners: What do you think about before the gun goes off at a race?
beesley: I think "STOP POINTING THAT GUN AT ME."

scrunners: Explain to us what is involved to prepare for a meet, from rest, to what you eat the night before, the day of and your warm up all the way to your cool down.
beesley: I don't really have a set routine.

scrunners: What kind of mileage did you run this summer?
beesley: I ran 70+ miles per week this summer

scrunners: Who did you train with this summer?
beesley: My teammates at Greenwood HS.

scrunners: What pace do you run on daily runs, speed days, and long days?
beesley: On long days (10+ miles) the pace is around 6:50. Regular distance runs are at a 5:45 pace. Speed days we hit specific paces set for us by the coach (Sammy Owen). It (the pace) really depends on the intensity and the race goals that are set by the coach (Sammy Owen). He (Sammy Owen) has workouts and paces set for each runner based on our performances.

scrunners: How has your training changed since the summer to the present in season?
beesley: During the summer I put a lot of base miles in and let the Junior Olympic races take place of my speed workouts.

scrunners: What do you look for in a coach and what do you expect a coach to look for in you?
beesley: I want a coach who will design workouts that are specific for me. I expect a coach to expect me to give 100% and train smart.

scrunners: Where is your favorite place to train?
beesley: My favorite place to train is on trails.

scrunners: What kind of training do you do between each season (cross training)?
beesley: I lift weights and bike ride.

scrunners: Has there been a time that you have become discouraged with running? What did you do to overcome this discouragement and how did you become discouraged?
beesley: After the state (CC) meet during my sophomore year when I was in the lead an collapsed with 50-meters to go. I realizd that I had many more races ahead (of me) and I should not dwell on my downfalls.

scrunners: Who are your biggest team and individual rivals? When do these rivals become the most intense?
beesley: Team wise the biggest rival is Spring Valley and Aiken. On an individual level Ben Sloan from Dorman is my biggest individual rival. Ben (Sloan) ran for Greenwood his ninth grade year. He transferred to Dorman when his parents moved to Spartanburg. JUST KIDDING BEN.

scrunners: If there is one thing that you could do in the world what would it be and why?
beesley: I would like to compete in the Run Across the Sahara Desert.
