SCHSL State: Micah Williams video interview

What did you hear about the Shrine Bowl Run before this year?
I had never heard anything about the Shrine Bowl Run before this year.

What do you hope to experience on Dec. 20?
A fun run with a bunch of senior friends!

How are you preparing to run with a football?
I played football for three years when I was younger. I throw football with my dad all the time, and I feel pretty comfortable with it.

How would you rate your senior season?
I give it a 9.5. Absolutely amazing. Had so much fun. The team state championship was incredible. Something we’ve been working towards for a long time.

What future goals do you have?
I want to compete in some big track meets this track season, drop some time, and win a couple individual state championships.

Have you made the decision to compete at the next level? Please explain.
I have not made that decision yet, but I really want to go to Clemson. I just need to decide if I want to run there.

How did you get involved with the sport and when?
I got involved with cross country my freshman year because my parents said I should try it. They said I could use it to get in shape for basketball. I was really reluctant at first but eventually decided I would give it a shot. Now, I am so thankful for them getting me to do it; it has been an incredible opportunity.

Do you have any relation or know someone that has attended the Shriners Hospital?
No, I do not.

How have you seen the sport change in the state? Please explain.
Throughout the years, I have seen more participation by fans (waving flags, painting up, being ridiculous, etc.). For me personally, it has changed a lot each year. I feel a lot closer to all the other runners from other schools. I have loved getting to know all of these fellow competitors.

What was your motivation for your final XC season?
To win a team state championship. I felt like it would be so much more memorable to win as a team, than just individually (that proved to be true). Also, the whole season, I knew that anything could happen, and I had to keep telling myself to hold onto what I have loosely. I knew that I could get injured or sick at any moment; I had to realize that the gift I have is not really mine, but it’s what God gave me. I had to learn how to be faithful with his gift that he entrusted to me. This was something that kept me motivated throughout the season.

If there is one thing in the world you could do, what would it be and why?
Go climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with my dad just because it’s something we have both said that we want to do. I think it would be a fun experience.
