Salute To Seniors: Nicholas Busch - University High School

The 2014-2015 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

What was your most memorable race/moment?

My most memorable race was either the 400 at the Holy Trinity Invitational when I finally broke 50 and went 49.99, or when I qualified for the state meet in the 400 for the first time.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Jamari Smith, Akeem Simmons, and my teammate Emondre Armstrong.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

Getting the opportunity to run in college on a scholarship

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would have run faster.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I didn't have a sprint coach until my junior year of high school and I practice on a beat up track.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss the crowd on the backstretch of the track.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Persevere through tough times, and work hard. If you're not practicing to the best of your ability you're wasting your time.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coaches have influenced me in so many ways. Everything I've accomplished in the sport is because of their help. They taught me to work hard and reach for the stars.

What are your college plans?

I'm going to run for Limestone College up in Gaffney, South Carolina with my best friend Jose Torres.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

My coaches, Coach Shavers and Coach Smiley, my family, and my teammates.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
