Salute to seniors: Greer Middle College’s Micah Williams

What was your most memorable race/competition?
The Canned Food Drive at Hillcrest my sophomore year. I lost my right shoe around mile two and broke 17 for the first time. It was hilarious and fun! But also cross country state my senior year!!

Where did you face your biggest competition?
I ran against Quattlebaum for three years, and that was great competition of course. But the two mile at Taco Bell my senior year was some of the best competition I've run with/against.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
Our team winning state in cross country and winning Gatorade Player of the Year in cross country.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?
I would have intentionally trained during the summer before my sophomore year. But other than that, I wouldn't change much. I have been blessed beyond words with my experience and lack of injuries.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
I think our lack of facilities (track, locker rooms, building, weight room, etc.) has been a difficult obstacle for me. We train on a field most of the time. The conditions have not always been ideal, but it has taught me to be a better leader and runner.

What will you miss the most?
My coach and teammates! Nothing can replace that group of guys who persevered to win a state championship last November.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Run lots of summer miles, never stop eating (nutrition is so important - it took me too long to realize this), and when it comes to the team as a whole, communicate your goals to each other and keep each other accountable to become the best you can be!

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals?
My coach has not only pushed me to get better every day, but he has helped me become a better man in all areas of life. He has also inspired me to be a coach one day.

What are your college plans?
Thanks to the faithfulness of God, I am running at Clemson University this fall.

Shout-outs?
Shout out to my mom and dad for talking me into doing this crazy sport a few years ago! Love yall to death!!!
