Life in the fast lane for Rebekah Smith

How do you look at having the top time in the 100 this season?
It is a blessing to have the top time this season.

How do you prepare for multiple events?

Well, we start conditioning in December which focuses on really getting us back in shape. Then the first day of practice starts at the beginning of February so that's when we focus on individual events, so the coaches can work with us more in groups.

Do you have a favorite event, and why?

My favorite event is the 100 because it's a quick race.

How would you rate your performances at Diamond Hornets Invitational?

I have a lot of improvements, but running a 12.2s 100 is great for the start of the season.

Where do you see yourself going the rest of the season after this past weekend?

I see myself running below 12s with the help of the 200 that I have started running this year.

What are your post high school plans?

I plan on running track in college and majoring in nursing and minoring in education.

What are your goals for the season?

My goals for this season is to run an 11.8s 100 dash and possibly run a lower time.

What do you remember the most from the 2015 season?

I remember winning the state championship

How did winter training going?

Winter training was great.

How long have you been running and how did you get started?

I've been running since my freshman year in high school. I got started running after my friends told me that I would be great at track, so we all did it together.

Do you have a specific motivation?

My motivation is to get a D1 scholarship.

Will you be competing out of state this season?

I will not be competing out of state.

What do you enjoy about the Dutch Fork team?

I enjoy how the bond I have with my coaches and team. We are a big family and and I love that.

Do you have a pre-race tradition?
I always say a prayer, and dance around.

What race strategy works best for you?
I say "AG-TURF-KNEE" which is for my start. "AG" is the angle I need to be in when in the set position, "TURF" helps me remember to stay low, and "KNEE" helps me remember my knee drive when coming out the blocks.

What has been your biggest challenge in the sport? How did you overcome the challenge?

My biggest challenge in this sport is proving college coaches that I can run 11.88s again or even lower. I really do not have many coaches trying to recruit me right now because they want to make sure me running 11.88s wasn't just a one time thing. I overcome this challenge by just focusing on my events and trying to meet the standards and requirements of the college coaches.

What (so far) is your favorite race in your high school career?

My favorite race is the 100.

Favorite running memory?

My favorite running memory is running 4x100 my freshman and sophomore year.

When you are not running what is your favorite thing to do?

I've always had a passion for dance, so when I'm not running I go take dance classes.

Favorite quote?

"I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me." - Philippians 4:13

Do you see yourself coaching in the future?

Yes, I do.

If there is one thing you could do in the world what would it be and why?

It would be to experience running in the Olympics.

What is it like or what goes through your mind during a race from start to finish?

What goes through my mind from the start of the race is to first not false start, and to make sure I don't come in last place.
