Stowers wins 100 hurdles for second-straight weekend

Mann's Briana Nelson, running with club team Quick Striders, placed second in the finals of the 200-meter dash at USATF Youth Outdoor Nationals Saturday in Charlotte.

Nelson ran 24.17 in the finals with Mt. Airy (N.C.) Track Club's Shanae-Latae first in 23.99 seconds.

Nelson qualified with second place heat finish in the preliminaries. The Mann rising junior ran 24.50.

Nelson's preliminary time was fifth-fastest heading to the finals.

West Florence rising sophomore Lauren Ellis, also running for Quick Striders, finished second in heat seven of preliminaries, but failed to qualify for the finals.

Pendleton rising junior Jasmin Stowers (Quick Striders) finished first in heat two of the 100 hurdles preliminaries. Stowers ran 13.66, the fastest time before Sunday's finals.

Quick Striders' intermediate girls 4x400-meter relay team advanced to the finals with a second place heat two time of three minutes, 52.05 seconds, the second fastest heading to the finals.

Greer's Antavia Owens, also a member of Quick Striders team, qualified for the young women 200-meter dash finals with a preliminary time 25.30. Owens placed second in heat two preliminaries, the eighth-fastest prior to finals. Eight qualified for the finals.

Owens placed seventh in the finals (25.87).

Emerald's Ashley Davis (Quick Striders) qualified for the intermediate girls 100-meter hurdles finals. Davis won heat three in 14.78 seconds, the fastest preliminary time.

Both Ellis and Nelson are entered in the 400-meter dash finals and Stowers is scheduled to compete in the 100 hurdles finals and 400-meter hurdles finals on Sunday.

Finals are scheduled for Sunday, according to the meet Web site.
