Academic Magnet coach undergoing treatment for leukemia

Academic Magnet coach Brian Johnson, 41, is undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia, he said on social media earlier today.

Johnson teaches at the Charleston County School of Arts. Johnson is ranked fourth in masters men state road race rankings.

"
Some of you already know but I wanted to share the details. I am currently in the Medical University of South Carolina hospital being treated for AML Leukemia. I will undergo chemo and be here for the next 21-28 days. Thanks to all those who have already reached out to Emily or myself with positive thoughts, prayers, and offers for help. It will be a tough fight, but I feel like I have trained my whole life to face something like this. The doctors are optimistic that they can cure it completely. At the current moment, we have our needs met and have a great support system. We will need your continued prayers and positive energy. Please give us a few days and feel free to come by. You can text me and I can let you know if it is a good time or reach out to Emily in the coming weeks. I will be here for a while to say the least. I am inspired by so many of you and will need it going forward. Take a moment to hug your loved ones as you never know what tomorrow brings."
