Greenwood\'s Beesley To Join Winthrop Eagles In Fall

Trevor Beesley signed a National Letter of Intent this past week with Winthrop Eagles. Beesley is a senior at Greenwood High School.

Beesley has a 3200-meter 2004 season best of 09:58.85, set at the Region 1-4A championships. Beesley set a 1600-meter season best of 4:27.83 at the Coaches Classic meet, where he finished sixth. Beesley ended his cross-country season at the Footlocker South Region meet with a season best 5,000-meter time of 15:48.

Trevor Beesley ran away with the Young Men individual title on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Richmond, Va. at the Region III Junior Olympics. Beesley and 14 other runners fought for the title before Beesley crossed the line first in 16:23.86. Beesley finished ninth at the 2003 State Cross-Country Championsips in 16:23.

Prior to signing with Winthrop Beesley looked into Anderson, Clemson and South Carolina, however in the last month he narrowed his decision down to Anderson or Winthrop.

Wren's Brad Orr also signed with Winthrop earlier this week. Winthrop is a D-I member of the Big South Conference.

John Eagle (Rock Hill/Northwestern HS), Matt Hogan (Spartanburg/Dorman HS), Mike Laughlin (Aiken/South Aiken HS), Peter Raines (Fort Mill/Fort Mill HS), Donald Stouffer (North Myrtle Beach/North Myrtle Beach HS) and Ian White (Mt. Pleasant/Governor's School) are the current South Carolina cross-country runners at Winthrop.
