The South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (SCTCCCA) announced tonight the change of venue and date for the SCTCCCA Coaches Classic.
The meet is now scheduled for Oct. 12, 2019. The venue, Sandhills Research Facility, was used for 19 seasons for the meet. At the time of this announcement, there is not an update on the location of the SCHSL State Championships in the future.
Update: Sandhills Invitational meet management told scrunners Thursday they are looking for a new venue and will not return during the 2019 cross country season to Sandhills Research Facility.
The SCTCCCA said in a statement, "The South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association would like to announce a date change for the Coaches Classic Cross Country meet, which has been traditionally contested on the second Saturday in September. The meet will be moved to the second Saturday in October starting in 2019.
We would also like to announce that we are seeking an alternate location for the Coaches Classic Cross Country meet, set for Oct. 12, 2019. The SCTCCCA would like to express their sincere thanks to Clemson Extension and the Sandhills Research Facility for hosting the Coaches Classic and State Cross Country meets as well as countless other meets for the past 19 years.
We understand that Sandhills is a research facility first, and we appreciate that they have a job to do and must use the property in the most efficient manner possible. The SCTCCCA is grateful for the accommodating manner in which the Clemson Extension has opened the doors of the facility to cross country athletes and teams over the past 19 years, and although an ending will be bittersweet, we are appreciative of the time we were able to use the facility and part with nothing but gratitude for Clemson University and the staff at Sandhills. We are currently working to secure a central location for the 2019 Coaches Classic meet, and hope to announce the new location within the next week."
