Week four of the SCRunners Cross Country Series sponsored by Go-Green Events saw a lot of changes in the top 10 spots. Of course, this was to be expected with two meets scoring this past weekend, the Cavalier Classic at Dorman and the Low Country Invitational at James Island. This week also a lot of the top teams either idle or competing at other meets. With the tallies of this week's meets, we are past the halfway point of our scoring. Five meets remain in the next four weeks including the double points Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic.
The individual girls leader from last week, Macey Morgan of Mauldin has dropped to third and last week's number two Elizabeth Rogers of Riverside, has moved up to claim the top spot. Hannah Vroon moves from sixth to second. Wade Hampton's Elizabeth Markwell climbed from tenth to fourth. Two athletes who were not in the top 25 last week, Katerina Hendrix of Dorman and Elise Barradale of Fort Mill have climbed into the top 10 for this week's standings.
The top two in the girls' team rankings remain the same. Riverside has opened a commanding lead over second-place Wade Hampton. Dorman has climbed to third. The biggest gains in the top 10 came from last week's 24th and 25th place teams, Philip Simmons and Summerville, who are both now tied for 10th.
The Wade Hampton Generals boys' team held on to first place in the team chase. Wando climbed to second from fourth place and Lexington climbs 12 places from 15th to a tie with Riverside for third. Summerville also climbed 12 places from 20th last week to eight this week.
The boys individual race finds Casey Burr of Wade Hampton and Ronan O'Neill of Pendleton hold onto the top two spots. Burr gained four more points in the lead by winning the Cavalier Classic. Dalton Jones of Fort Mill climbed from seventh to third and Zander Jeffcoat of Lexington climber from eighth to fourth. Previously unranked in the top 25, Noah Ward of Philip Simmons and Zane Jackson of Cane Bay have moved into a tie for seventh.
Next week the series takes on two meets in the lower half of the state - the Darlington Cross Country Carnival and the Military Magnet Invitational. The following week is the all-important Coaches Classic on the new course for the SCHSL State Championships - the Colonial Cup facility in Camden. Watch the course video.
