AAU Set To Host National Racewalking Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 30, 2020)--On December 5, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will hold its first ever stand-alone youth racewalking event, the 2020 AAU Racewalk National Championships.

With registration open for ages six to 100+ and with multiple championship distances, the inaugural event will be held at Apalachee Regional Park.

A longtime sport supported by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), racewalking continues to grow within the organization. For many years,1,500-meter and 3,000-meter races have been held at the AAU Junior Olympic Games as well as at the District, Regional and National levels. Racewalking has also been an event at AAU Track and Field Club National Championships, However, this will be the first time that racewalking will get its very own AAU-licensed event for juniors, open and master racewalkers.

The 2020 AAU Racewalking National Championships will be contested on a 1-kilometer loop at a USATF-certified course with medals awards in youth, open and masters age groups.

In addition to the competitive event, a free clinic will be held the day before to get everyone up to speed on the sport. The clinic will take place at same location at begin at 4 p.m. on December 4th and is open to all level and ages as well as officials interested in learning to judge the sport.

Who: Racewalkers of all ages from 6 to 100+

Where: Apalachee Regional Park, 7550 Apalachee Pwy. Tallahassee, Florida 32311

Course: 1K loop on paved USATF certified course.

Championship Distances: 1K, 3K, 5K and 10K.

Awards: Medals awarded in youth, open and masters age groups.

Clinic: Friday, December 4 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Apalachee Regional Park. No additional cost for all who are interested in learning how to walk. All ages and levels are invited as well as coaches and officials interested in learning how to judge racewalking.
