WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Presbyterian College senior Mellette Johnson (Florence, S.C.) and junior Nicholas Baer (Easley, S.C.) were named to the 2009 Big South Conference Cross Country All-Academic teams on Saturday.
A five time Dean's List and one-time President's List recipient at PC, Johnson holds a 3.37 GPA while majoring in Business with a concentration in Management. Since joining the team her sophomore year, Johnson has consistently improved through dedicated training. Her senior year, she was voted team captain and finished first for PC at the Winthrop Invitational (22:14) and at the 2009 Big South Conference Cross Country Championships (21:47). Her 5k PR came at the 2009 Blue Hose Invitational in October when she finished tenth overall (21:24).
Johnson also leads the abs and kickboxing classes at PC. She is an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, PC Orchestra, and is Senior Class President.
Baer has been named to the Dean's List all four semesters at PC. He maintains a 3.36 cumulative GPA while majoring in Biology. Baer set his 5k PR (17:10) in the season opener at USC and led the team at the Big South Conference Championships on Oct. 31 (29:31).
This marks the second straight season Baer has earned honors for PC. Last season, he claimed Choice Hotels Runner of the Week, Big South Presidential Honor Roll, and a spot on the 2008 Big South Conference Cross Country All-Academic Team.
