USATF S.C. Long Distance Runners of the Year Named


USATF South Carolina announced Monday James Quattlebaum and Alyssa Bloomquist as runners of the year for the association. Quattlebaum, a Christ Church alumnus has the 10K state record (29:01) and Bloomquist, a Mauldin alumnus, ran a personal best 1:16:43 to win the Greenville Half Marathon.

Quattlebaum, a Greenville native won his hometown Reedy River Run 10K in 29:20 after running a 4:04 street mile the night before in Spartanburg. Other contenders for this award were Ricky Flynn, Brett Morley, Neil Saddler and Jason Weitzel.

After taking two years off from racing, Bloomquist, a Simpsonville resident had finished seventh at the Cooper River Bridge Run 10K in 34:22, five seconds off the state record.
